Eighteen people were killed in a road accident in Niger State yesterday. The horrible accident happened at Hammana International College Junction in Gidan Mangoro on the Minna-Bida Road.

The bus was purportedly leaving Lagos, although it was unclear if it was bound for Kano or Sokoto.

According to the Nation, the tragedy occurred about 3 a.m. when the bus collided with a stalled truck and exploded into flames.

There was no rescue effort until around 5 a.m., when people began gathering, only to find the passengers burned beyond recognition.

It was learned that two people were rescued at the site and transferred to IBB Hospital.

According to reports, one of them died later and the other was fighting for his life.

DSP Abiodun Wasiu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), verified the occurrence, claiming that the dead were all buried together near the accident site.

He stated that the bus’s licence plate was also burned beyond recognition, but that efforts are being made to locate the bus.
