President Muhammadu Buhari have ordered the Ministry of defense to create a modest military industrial complex were weapons will be produced locally as part of efforts to ensure improved security and to meet some of the requirements of the Nigerian military.

The president disclose this on Monday at the opening of Mid-term Ministerial Performance Review retreat which took place at the state house conference center in Abuja.
He added that the establishment of the complex will reduce Nigeria dependent on other countries for military equipments and logistics.
He said: “To address our over-dependence on other countries for military equipment and logistics, I have instructed the defence ministry to create a modest military industrial complex for the local production of weapons to meet some of the requirements of the country’s armed forces,”
Buhari added that the the project will be handled by Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) which is a department responsible for arms manufacture in the military.
“This is being implemented under the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), a military department responsible for arms manufacture”
