The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Lilian Salami, has announced the immediate closure of the University following the students protest.
The students protested on Tuesday against the N20,000 hike in their tuition fee.

UNIBEN had earlier announced that students who did not pay their school fees within the given time-frame would have to pay extra charges and might have their studentship withdrawn.
The students allegedly said the spokesman of the University told them to go into prostitution to pay their school fees. The students were seen gathered at the institution entrance carrying banners with various inscriptions like “Madam VC wants to milk us dry” and many more.
